Garden brief
To construct a beautiful formal garden fitting for the Victorian house that was also suitable for the young family. The client wanted to use all areas of the garden, as large parts were not utilised before the changes.
The garden design
This is a Victorian property set in the heart of Cheltenham. When we arrived, there were several dilapidated outhouses, an exceptionally large dominant trampoline, and a lawn mainly of moss. The brief was to keep the trampoline and create a garden that had a formal feel but with a contemporary twist and had to incorporate two large cedar trees subject to preservation orders. Consequently, there are areas within the garden with a different feel.
The trampoline was sunk to ground level and is now usable by young and old and has even been used for fun by adults at barbecues.
Another area has formal beds edged in box with cottage garden planting. A summer house was built into a corner with a wood burning stove for chilly nights.
The planting round the summer house and water feature have a more contemporary feel. Garden lighting was installed to create atmosphere and there is an automated irrigation system to minimise work.
Gardens by Keltie and Clark also provide an aftercare service for this garden. This support is available after the design and construction of any garden.
